Checkmate for White

In complete dependence upon the Lord, be fully engaged in the battle, fighting well for eternal life and the excellence in ministry for which you were called. Your great testimony will be confirmed by many witnesses.
1 Timothy 6:12 The Discussion Bible
Checkmate for White

On God’s chess board with squares so neat,
Two armies marched with marching feet.
One dressed in black with snarling grin,
One dressed in white to fight for him.

“I’ll wear the white.” I loudly cried.
“With God alone I will abide.
Why should I choose the losing side
Where sneaky shadows slink and hide?”

Perhaps I’m just a little pawn,
Who inches forward with the dawn.
One tiny step, then one step more,
Still marching onward through God’s war.

The mighty queen may sweep the land,
The knight may charge with shield in hand,
But pawns who faithfully press on through
Can reach King’s Row with crown anew.

Or maybe I’m a bishop bright,
Gliding across fields of white,
Moving sideways, swift and true,
To do the work God calls me to.

Perhaps a rook both strong and square,
Who guards the weak with watchful care.
Or maybe like a knight I’ll take a leap
Where frightened hearts in darkness creep.

No matter what my role may be,
No matter where God places me,
I’ll bravely fight with all my might
For truth and love and what is right.

For every piece upon God’s board,
Must trust the wisdom of the Lord.
And when the final move is done,
The King of kings will say, “We’ve won.”
